You Can See More Clearly When You Visit An Optometrist In Chicago

byAlma Abell

If you are having trouble seeing, whether up close or at a distance, you need to schedule a vision exam. Exams should be regularly scheduled every one or two years. If you are over 60 years old, you should schedule a yearly exam.

Scheduling a Comprehensive Eye Exam

By scheduling an exam with an optometrist in Chicago, you can have your eyes checked and get the needed eyewear or contacts in 24 to 48 hours. Most glasses are ready to pick up within 48 hours. However, before you can choose contacts or designer eye frames, you need to know what to expect during an eye exam.

Tests for Visual Acuity

During a comprehensive eye exam, your optometrist will perform visual acuity tests. These tests measure your vision’s sharpness. A projected eye chart is used for this purpose while another hand-held chart is employed to test your near vision.

Taking a Cover Test

Besides visual acuity testing, an optometrist also uses a cover test. During a cover test, the eye doctor asks the patient to focus on a small item in the room. The eyes are alternately covered while the patient looks at the item. The test is done again. However, this time, the patient focuses on a closer item. This test is performed to reduce any problems that could lead to amblyopia (lazy eye) or eyestrain.

Ocular Motility Exam

Ocular motility testing is conducted to see how well the eyes follow a moving object. The patient holds his or her head motionless and then follows the movement of a hand-held light. Any issues with eye movement can lead to eyestrain and can negatively affect a person’s ability to read.

Stay Focused and See Better

You can find out more about eye tests by contacting an office such as Tropical Optical Corp. That way, you can remain focused on having good eyesight. Make an appointment for comprehensive vision testing today.

Texan bystanders kill car passenger after child injured

Wednesday, June 20, 2007

A man who was trying to protect the driver of a vehicle that had hit a child pedestrian was killed by an angry crowd the evening of Wednesday, June 20, in Austin, Texas.

The man was identified today by Austin police as David Rivas Morales, age 40. The driver had just dropped Morales off at his sister’s townhouse moments before. Then while still in the parking lot, he allegedly bumped the toddler with the vehicle. The child was not injured and was not taken to the hospital. A group of 3 or 4 men confronted the driver and Morales came back to assist him. The assailants then turned on Morales. Police indicated the driver, who had escaped the scene of the crime, was cooperating with the investigation. Morales died at the hospital from injuries that included a cracked skull and brain hemorrhaging.

The neighborhood was crowded at the time with some 2,000 to 3,000 people who were participating in the annual Juneteenth celebration, which commemorates the day the emancipation of slaves was announced in Texas. It was not immediately known whether any of the attackers had been part of the celebration.

In a news conference on Wednesday, members of League of United Latin American Citizens called on the community not to assume the killing was racially motivated solely because Juneteenth celebrants are predominately African-American and the victim was Latino. Police officers stated that early reports were incorrect in implying thousands of potential witnesses, as investigations suggested only 10 to 15 people had been in the parking lot when the incident occurred and most of these were residents of apartments nearby.

Nokia Inc. announces plans for iPhone rival

Thursday, August 30, 2007

Announced early Wednesday morning at Nokia’s GoEvent, in a plan to expand the company’s revenue, Finland-based company Nokia Inc. is developing a mobile phone similar to its rival iPhone, which will be available in the near future for Nokia customers. The phone is expected to be available by 2008.

Most of the features are the same as the iPhone’s. They include music, games, and many other features, even ones that the iPhone may not have. Ovi (in Finnish meaning “Door”) will be the door for more than 2 million songs and games available for download on the new device. Users will be able to download wirelessly in their own home or anywhere there is access to a computer.

But this is not the first time Nokia has made an attempt like this to increase its revenue. In October of 2003 the company revealed the N-Gage, a game-playing cell phone, but was “stocked-out” due to poor sales. The N95 smartphone, which was released in the U.S. on April 7, 2007 (before the iPhone on June 29, 2007) includes WiFi, a GPS, a music player, and a 5 megapixel digital camera. The three other phones that were revealed at the event in London will be in-stock next quarter. The new N81 and the modified N95 smartphones were among the revealed at yesterday’s event; the N81 is a new member to Nokia’s smartphone family; the N95 has been modified by having more memory and a sleeker LCD screen.

When Nokia was asked about the striking similarity between this and the iPhone, Nokia’s Executive Vice President and General Manager of Multimedia, Anssi Vanjoki, said, “If there is something good in the world then we copy with pride.”

Nokia first demoed their iPhone rival August 29th. During their demo they omitted the fact that the demo was for the software to be in use, not the actual hardware.[1]

Get Fit With One Of The Best Fitness Programs

By Gary Holdon

One of the most difficult things to do when you want to get fit is to choose among all the fitness programs out there. So, what are the criteria for choosing one of these fitness programs? It depends on your initial level of fitness. You see, some fitness programs are aimed at different levels of fitness. Therefore it is smart to record your own fitness level by measuring for example your pulse rate after exercise as well as how many repetitions of a move you find possible. By doing this you will be able to measure the progress you make along with the fitness program you choose from the many programs available. Also expect to use a part of your leisure time for workout activities; you have to invest a certain amount of time to get fit.

There is seriously no point beginning a fitness program that requires daily workouts if you do not have enough free time every day. It is also a grand waste of time if the fitness program consists of exercises that you abhor and will regularly avoid. It’s momentous to be logical and choose a realistic plan that it will be easy to stick to.

Variations, a slow progression and assigning rest days are also important to a workout routine. Ensuring that you have all the tools needed at hand including water to hydrate the body will enable a workout to continue uninterrupted. Do not select a program that will overwhelm you and remember to leave time aside for a warm up to stretch the joints before and after the exercise. Keeping a record of progress and maintaining enough flexibility to add new or different features to the routine can help keep you motivated.

How Do You Stay Motivated With Fitness Programs?

The problem that most of us have with fitness programs is the struggle to stay motivated. This happens if our workout routine becomes boring, takes too much time or if we do not see some results fast enough. Setting goals and achievement points can be a great way to stay motivated. Work to complete short term goals and at the same time striving to achieve a long term achievement. If the goals are structured as small steps and realistic, there is less chance of getting frustrated or disheartened and quit completely. Building up at a natural pace can give your body the capability to succeed and accomplishing something for the first time can be a great motivator.

Sticking to fitness programs can also depend on your personality. If you hate to be alone and as a social person, you may find jogging alone every morning a chore so a team sport or a class could be a better usage of your time. Likewise, if you feel that you need time alone to concentrate or focus on your fitness program, joining an aerobics class may not be the best choice for you. It is important to look forward to the workout you choose to perform because if it is drudgery it will become something you learn to dread and avoid.

People who have trained much knows that using a regular workout routine day in and day out can be boring. One very effective way of handling this is trying to fit part of your fitness workout program into your daily activities. Examples of this might be using stairs instead of elevators, don’t drive but walk to your work etc. Fitness programs do not have to be boring, so make it flexible, easy to change and fun; this is the best way to stay motivated to keep on working out.

Miami of Ohio and Boston College advance to 2010 NCAA men’s ice hockey Frozen Four

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Obviously it was an unbelievable feeling

Miami of Ohio beat the Michigan Wolverines 3–2 at the finals of the NCAA Midwest regional ice hockey tournament Sunday night at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Miami sophomore forward Alden Hirschfeld scored at 1:54 into the second overtime when his shot from the top of the left face off circle deflected into the goal off the skate of the Michigan goaltender Shawn Hunwick.

Pat Cannone led the scoring with two power play goals for Miami during regulation. It looked as though Michigan had won the game in the first overtime when Michigan’s forward Kevin Lynch appeared to score. Unfortunately for Michigan the referee blew the whistle calling a penalty just before the puck went in the net. The Miami goaltender Connor Knapp who made 53 saves in the game was named the most outstanding player of the midwest regional tournament.

This was the first multiple overtime game for the Miami of Ohio RedHawks in their 23 years. Miami will be going to the Frozen Four for the second straight year.

It was great to see all those hats on the ice

The Boston College Eagles advanced to the Frozen Four in a shoot out with the Yale Bulldogs. BC defeated Yale 9–7 last night at the finals of the NorthEast regionals in front of 6,054 fans at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.

BC forward Cam Atkinson had a hat trick and an assist. Mark Arcobello of Yale also had a hat trick. In an attempt to find a way to stop the Eagles scoring Yale played three different goalies during the game. The sixteen total goals is a NCAA record for a regional tournament game. The previous record was thirteen.

This will be the 22nd time that Boston College has made it to the Frozen Four, it is the ninth for coach Jerry York and their third trip in the past four seasons. BC will face Miami of Ohio in the semifinals on April 8 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.

Wikinews interviews 2020 Melbourne Lord Mayor Candidate Wayne Tseng

This article mentions the Wikimedia Foundation, one of its projects, or people related to it. Wikinews is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Thursday, October 22, 2020

2020 Melbourne Lord Mayor candidate Wayne Tseng answered some questions about his campaign for the upcoming election from Wikinews. The Lord Mayor election in the Australian city is scheduled to take place this week.

Tseng runs a firm called eTranslate, which helps software developers to make the software available to the users. In the candidate’s questionnaire, Tseng said eTranslate had led to him working with all three tiers of the government. He previously belonged to the Australian Liberal Party, but has left since then, to run for mayorship as an independent candidate.

Tseng is of Chinese descent, having moved to Australia with his parents from Vietnam. Graduated in Brisbane, Tseng received his PhD in Melbourne and has been living in the city, he told Wikinews. Tseng also formed Chinese Precinct Chamber of Commerce, an organisation responsible for many “community bond building initiatives”, the Lord Mayor candidate told Wikinews.

Tseng discussed his plans for leading Melbourne, recovering from COVID-19, and “Democracy 2.0” to ensure concerns of minorities in the city were also heard. Tseng also focused on the importance of the multi-culture aspect and talked about making Melbourne the capital of the aboriginals. Tseng also explained why he thinks Melbourne is poised to be a world city by 2030.

Tseng’s deputy Lord Mayor candidate Gricol Yang is a Commercial Banker and works for ANZ Banking Group.

Currently, Sally Capp is the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, the Victorian capital. Capp was elected as an interim Lord Mayor in mid-2018 after the former Lord Mayor Robert Doyle resigned from his position after sexual assault allegations. Doyle served as the Lord Mayor of Melbourne for almost a decade since 2008.

Items Needed To Bake Cookies}

Items Needed to Bake Cookies

by

JB Cookie CuttersBaking cookies is a hobby many people enjoy. After all, not many can resist a delicious warm cookie straight from the oven. It’s even more enjoyable if you are baking with friends or family members. You might do this during the holiday season, to bring to a friend, or just because you want some cookies. There are some materials that are required for baking cookies, and you should have these items on hand before you get started. These all help your cookies come out tasting delicious.Cookie CuttersIf you are making a sugar cookie, then you will need some cookie cutters. You can find cookie cutters online

that have all sorts of cute shapes and even characters. These will help keep the size of your cookie uniform, which will help them bake evenly in the oven. It will also make the process more fun if you have fondant cutters.

Measuring CupsBaking cookies is a science, and that means there is a lot of measuring involved. Measuring cups and spoons are a must. You may think you can eyeball it or use your cups and spoons you have in your kitchen, but if they aren’t made specifically for measuring, you are going to wind up with inaccurate measurements. This is something that can ruin your cookie. Make sure the measuring spoons and cups you use are made for baking and have accurate measurements on them.Mixing BowlsYou are probably planning on making several dozen cookies, which takes a lot of ingredients. Make sure you have mixing bowls on hand so you can mix the ingredients together easily.Rolling PinA rolling pin is required for any cookie you are going to use fondant cutters on. This will help the dough be rolled out evenly, which is important when it comes to baking. You want your cookies to be as consistent as possible so they bake in the same amount of time. Otherwise, you may wind up with cookies that are burned or some that aren’t done in the middle.Oven MittsYou probably know that the cookie sheets are going to be pretty hot when they come out of the oven. You will burn your hand pretty badly if you do not have oven mitts on them. Some people use a towel instead, but this usually won’t offer you enough protection. Have at least one oven mitt that you can use for taking things out of the oven so you don’t wind up burning yourself.Cookie SheetsCookie sheets will help the cookies bake evenly. They are what you will put your cookies on before putting your cookies in the oven. If your cookie sheets are older, you may want to line them with something like parchment paper to help your cookies bake better. If they are newer cookie sheets, then you may not need to do this, although it may help make clean up easier.Fondant cutters, a rolling pin, measuring cups, a mixing bowl, cookie sheets, and an oven mitt are all pretty common things you will need for cookies. Make sure you have them all hand before you get started so you know you have everything you will need. To know more about our products please visit our site at https://www.jbcookiecutters.com/
