Baby falls from third floor window and survives

March 20th, 2021

Saturday, November 24, 2007

On Thursday, November 22, Thanksgiving Day, Bradley Priebe, a one-year-old baby boy fell from a third floor apartment window in New York City, New York. He has now been allowed to leave the hospital after staying overnight for observation. According to reports, the child sustained no serious injures from the fall and is in stable condition.

Anna Priebe, the baby’s mother says that it is “a miracle” that her son did not break any bones. Brandon, the father, says that the boy is doing “good. Everything’s OK.”

Bradley crawled out of the window and fell onto the roof of a Bronx music shop. The window was nearly 20 feet from the ground. The family thought the window was closed.

Police say that there is no reason to suspect that the incident is a criminal action, and no charges have been filed against the parents.

Influential rock drummer Ginger Baker dies at age 80

March 20th, 2021

Monday, October 7, 2019

Yesterday morning, English drummer Ginger Baker died in a hospital at the age of 80. The news came from the Twitter account in his name and was independently confirmed by Associated Press with his daughter Nettie Baker. On September 25, it was reported Baker was hospitalized in critical condition. Baker was widely known as the drummer and co-founder of the rock band Cream, an early supergroup.

Baker, a life-long smoker and former heroin addict, suffered from health problems for years. The list of ailments included hearing loss, osteoarthritis, emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as well as heart problems for which he had surgery in 2016. Although known to have lived his latter years in South Africa, his daughter said he died in Britain without elaborating.

Ginger Baker was born Peter Edward Baker in Lewisham, London, in 1939. His father was killed in combat in 1943 during World War II. Baker — who was reportedly nicknamed Ginger due to his red hair — began playing drums in his teens. In a story he sometimes told, he had a habit of tapping on school desks. When an opportunity arose at a party, his classmates encouraged him to sit down at a drum set. “I’d never sat behind a kit before, but I sat down — and I could play! One of the musicians turned round and said, ‘Bloody hell, we’ve got a drummer’, and I thought, ‘Bloody hell, I’m a drummer’?”, he recalled in a 2009 retelling of the story to the The Independent.

Baker began his career as a drummer in jazz bands. He played with Acker Bilk and Terry Lightfoot. In 1962, when fellow drummer Charlie Watts was leaving Blues Incorporated for The Rolling Stones, Watts recommended Baker to be his replacement. Later, Baker found early success with rhythm and blues band The Graham Bond Organisation where he met bassist Jack Bruce.

In 1966, Baker, Bruce and singer/guitarist Eric Clapton, who was known from The Yardbirds, formed Cream. The rock trio was a massive success, selling tens of millions of records, including the first ever platinum certified album Wheels of Fire. Cream recorded four albums, then in 1968 disbanded with Baker and Bruce having developed a volatile relationship. Clapton and Baker were subsequently in another supergroup Blind Faith with Steve Winwood and Ric Grech. Blind Faith recorded only one studio album but notably played before a crowd of a hundred thousand at a free concert in London’s Hyde Park.

In the 1970s, Baker moved to Nigeria where he established a studio and began playing polo. Here he collaborated with Fela Kuti and worked on Wings’s album Band on the Run with Paul McCartney of The Beatles fame. Later, he recorded with John Lydon’s Public Image Ltd.

Cream was inducted in 1993 into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band reunited in 2005 for several London and New York concerts. Afterwards he moved to South Africa, and still lived there when the 2012 documentary Beware of Mr. Baker was filmed. Baker’s last recording was 2014’s Why? solo album. Baker retired from live performances in 2016 due to his ill health.

Paul McCartney wrote on Twitter, “Ginger Baker, great drummer, wild and lovely guy. We worked together on the ‘Band on the Run’ album in his ARC Studio, Lagos, Nigeria. Sad to hear that he died but the memories never will.”

“A very sad loss, and my condolences to his family and friends. A loss also for his contribution to music. He was well-grounded in jazz from very early on,” wrote Steve Winwood in a statement. “Beneath his somewhat abrasive exterior, there was a very sensitive human being with a heart of gold. He’ll be missed.”

Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones also reacted on Twitter, “Sad news hearing that Ginger Baker has died, I remember playing with him very early on in Alexis Korner’s Blues Incorporated. He was a fiery but extremely talented and innovative drummer.”

Some 500 tickets for the Iqaluit show are to be sold, with an admission fee of approximately CA$40. Mike Bozzer, the city of Iqaluit’s economic development officer, told CBC News that talks have taken place with The White Stripes’ publicist regarding equipment, technicians, security and other such details. “It’s definitely going to have some economic impact, and they’ll come back home with positive stories of the city,” said Bozzer.

The band’s ten-year anniversary will be reached at a point during the Canadian leg of the tour, which will be commemorated. “Another special moment of this tour is the show which will occur in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on July 14th, The White Stripes’ Tenth Anniversary,” said Jack White.

Pets and Trends

by

Andrew Beene

Nowadays there are a great number of people wanting to own a pet. With the stress that nine to five brings, there are a great number of people who are now joining the bandwagon of owning pets. They not only treat pets as if they are spoiled animals but rather pets are treated like they are part of the family. Owners, especially those who are overly committed to the fact that they own animals as pets would see to it that pets would get the utmost attention from the owners themselves plus the regular visit with the vet.

Today, or world is actually suffering from massive destruction. With the destruction of nature with man’s need to globally evolve and explore new boundaries; man have consciously and unconsciously destroyed trees, oceans just for monetary gain. With the destruction of these vital parts of the world’s ecosystem; animals all over the world have been deprived of their natural habitat. With this problem in hand, there could come a time that the only surviving animals would have to be the human race. For these reasons there are now a great number of people being aware of the need to take good care of animals. There are those environmentalist organizations that not only provide help for the preservation of animals but they also service future generations of a chance to see them decades from now. These environmentalist are just like the people owning pets. They not only give time, effort and money but they offer themselves in order to protect the animals. Nowadays, the expansion of people’s love to pets have brought awareness that as humans, people should be able to not just consume and dominate the world but also to take care of it. As a caretaker of the living organisms and to prove that we are truly rationale beings capable of thinking and making responsible decisions, it is a good exercise actually to start taking care of a pet. Owning a pet don’t have an age limit attached to it. From the young to the young at heart, everyone is welcome to be a pet owner. It doesn’t really matter what kind of pet you are to take care of, as long as you are to find yourself in a position where you could actually foster care for the animal, then you are a good pet owner. For this reason, pet owners even stepped beyond responsible and started loving their animals as if they are part of the family. Clothes for dogs

are becoming popular nowadays as dog shows have showcased their bravado for attention of not just their pet owners but also of others. Businesses providing

clothing for dogs

have made their work accessible for each pet owner. Virtually in every pet store you could get anything you want. From clothing to the

coats for dogs

, just name it and they have it. Since fishes are also getting popular nowadays,

fish tank heaters

are becoming the popular requests of pet owners along side the

fish tank lights

.

Pets could be a source of joy for anyone. They say that by taking care of a pet, it gives you back the love you give. This is true since even medicine could prove that older patients with pets have a longer life than those with none. So it is really important to love animals for what they are and take care of their welfare.

Israeli athletes barred from representing country in Abu Dhabi’s grand slam

March 19th, 2021

Thursday, October 19, 2017

On Monday, the Israel Judo Association responded after organisers of the judo grand slam in Abu Dhabi told chairman of the Israel Judo Association Moshe Ponte Israeli athletes would not be permitted to wear the Israeli flag or symbols, or bear the country’s name on their judo uniform.

Ponte communicated with Miri Regev, Israeli minister of Culture and Sports, and considered withdrawing the team from the grand slam, which is scheduled to be held from October 26 to 28. Regev wrote a letter addressing Thomas Bach, the president of the International Olympic Committee, which read, “The demand to appear without national symbols is contrary to the mandate of international sports associations, the main aim of which is to separate politics from sport, and strengthen sport as a bridge and connection between peoples, cultures and countries.” She also wrote, “It is the obligation of any country which has the privilege of hosting an international competition to allow the competing athletes to represent the country honorably while ensuring their security.”

Officials of the Abu Dhabi judo grand slam said the players would not be allowed to bear Israel’s code “ISR” on their back, nor would it appear on the scoreboard, and the Israeli national anthem would not be played if any Israeli judoka wins a gold medal. However, the Israel Judo Association said, “We won’t be dragged into the political arena and won’t award prizes to those who want to deter us from appearing all over the world.” Twelve Israeli judokas are expected to compete in the grand slam in the capital of the UAE. They would represent the International Judo Federation, and their jersey would show an “IJF” tag.

About two years ago, Israeli athletes faced the same situation in the grand slam in the UAE’s capital, and Regev asked for an emergency meeting then.

In last year’s Olympics in Rio de Janiro, after losing to Israeli judoka Or Sasson, Islam El Shehaby of Egypt refused to shake hands. The International Olympic Committee said this gesture “was contrary to the rules of fair play and against the spirit of friendship embodied in the Olympic values.”

During the opening ceremony of the same tournament, the Israeli team were denied by Lebanese athletes to share a bus, even physically blocking the entrance to prevent Israelis from boarding the bus. Israeli’s sailing coach Udi Gal, in a Facebook post, wrote, “How could they let this happen on the eve of the Olympic Games? Isn’t this the opposite of what the Olympics represents?”.

Green Party refines ‘Buy Kiwi Made’ scheme

March 19th, 2021

Friday, August 11, 2006

The New Zealand Government has asked the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand to start refining its taxpayer funded ‘Buy Kiwi Made‘ scheme to also include products designed in New Zealand but manufactured elsewhere.

The Buy Kiwi Made scheme was a NZ$11 million post-election deal between the Labour Party and the Green Party.

Political experts say the reason for Labour to ask the Green party to refine the scheme was because it was afraid that companies, like clothes maker Icebreaker which manufactures its clothes outside of New Zealand would not be included.

Robert Linterman, Norsewear New Zealand CEO, said “The decision to include companies which manufacture overseas undermines the credibility of the entire campaign. We were assured that the purpose of Buy Kiwi Made was to encourage the production in New Zealand, help build up our manufacturing capability and create employment. It’s hard to see how classing Icebreaker – a company which does much of its processing and manufacturing in China – as Kiwi Made will help those achieve those aims. The Buy Kiwi Made campaign should support products which are actually Kiwi made – not just Kiwi designed.”

Sue Bradford, Green MP (Member of Parliament) who is responsible for Buy Kiwi Made scheme, said she is making her proposal clearer so such companies can be associated with it and that she is confident all sides will be pleased with the final proposal. “It is good to clarify the details because there is a lot of taxpayer’s money at stake,” Bradford said.

The New Zealand Council of Trade Unions does not want the scheme to be extended to the changes. Ross Wilson, President of the Council of Trade Unions, said “It would not be in the interests of many ordinary companies and their staff. I plan to raise union concerns with government ministers.”

Signs It’s Time For Single Hung Window Replacement In St Paul

March 19th, 2021

byadmin

The right residential windows can make all the difference when it comes to security, energy-efficiency, and aesthetic appeal. Single hung windows are a popular choice for any home, as they offer a traditional aesthetic in addition to a high degree of home security, but even well-constructed single hung windows can’t last forever. Read on to find out about a few common signs that it’s time for Single Hung Window Replacement in St Paul.

Difficult to Open and Close

As with any windows, single hung windows should always be easy for any inhabitants to open and close from the inside. Unfortunately, older windows often have issues with their balance mechanisms, causing windows to slam shut without any warning at all. This can pose a serious safety hazard to the household’s inhabitants and their guests, so it’s best to have these older, faulty windows replaced with new ones as soon as possible.

Frequent Condensation

No matter what type of windows a house features, there should never be condensation or fog in between panes of glass. This moisture accumulation is usually caused by a failing window seal, and without that seal, windows can’t operate at optimum energy efficiency. Failing seals don’t always lead to noticeable condensation, though, so homeowners may also want to keep an eye out for a white film on their glass, which usually indicates that calcium deposits are building up due to excess condensation.

Energy Inefficiency

While modern windows are designed to provide a highly efficient heat barrier, often featuring double or triple-paned glass for maximum energy efficiency, older single hung windows were not as effective as their modern equivalents. Any homeowner with windows that are more than a few years old might want to consider calling a professional for Single Hung Window Replacement in St Paul to discover whether replacing their windows might help them lower their monthly heating and cooling bills.

Innovative Strategies For Using Companies Making Plastic Bags

Innovative Strategies for Using Companies Making Plastic Bags

by

erankings

With the wave of competition in contemporary businesses widening and becoming more aggressive, companies are becoming strategic by generating operations management and value chain activities that are inimitable. Plastic packaging companies have not been left behind in this aspect. These companies pay credence to environmental sustainability by manufacturing plastic bags using inks that are water-soluble and non-polluting adhesives. Moreover, these printed bags are often recyclable as well or use recyclable plastic to prevent pollution and reduce landfill waste. This makes their products as environmentally sound as those of potential competitors. Essentially, this increases the market share and the competitive advantage of these companies. On the other hand, customers cannot get away from the ease of using these products since they are available in almost every retail outlet. They are hygienic, compact, and durable for the most part, and with care, a plastic bag can be reused many times.

Other than being stylish, these products are of premium quality. Printed bags are attractive and affordable, so the company prioritizes on cost leadership. The availability of bags in diverse colors makes these products suitable for all seasons. In Australia, the print quality of these bags is exemplary, long lasting, and of superior quality. The ink that is used in the creation of the colorful and unique designs is biodegradable and often made from recyclable components.

The value chain process, particularly the manufacturing processes, also make the quality of these printing bags finer and significantly advanced to use less plastic. The use of EPI additives in the extrusion stages makes these bags degradable once disposed in landfills. Although this is an opportunity cost requiring increased expense since it is optional, the company finds it valuable since it considers both the users and the resulting environmental impact in the creation of the bag. To assent how much the customers appreciate and prefer these bags made of plastic, feedback suggests that customers are pleased to see that these bags degrade as quickly as two months after disposal. This is an explicit depiction of how the desire for more environmental products has been driven by environmental sustainability.

These printed bags come in varieties as either high or low density based the material used to make them. This could be either polypropylene or polyethylene of diversified thickness. Their sizes are different to cater for different customer needs. However, one thing is common about these bags, their nature of being portable and efficient for shopping activities. To accommodate loads of different weights, the bags are fitted with different handles. These include cotton roped, hard and soft looped handles with metal eyelets, and die cut handles.

Top of these advantages, these companies offer high quality products other than just printed plastic bagsgiving their customers the desired results. Furthermore, these companies prioritize Australian environmental concerns of reducing supermarket bags by making them degradable, reusable, and recyclable. The future is growing to fulfill customer needs and producing superior quality products that protect the environment.
